Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix celebrity doll depicts him in a replica outfit of what he wore at the Miami Pop Festival on May 18, 1968. The 8 inch Marty Abrams action figure was made by Mego in 2019. While not a 1/6 scale the doll, the Mego version is a placeholder until the museum can afford the Blitzway 1/6 scale version.
Hendrix was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer whose career lasted only 4 years. He headlined at the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair and was the highest paid rock musician at that time. He mainly played right-handed guitars that were turned upside down and restrung for left-hand playing. Hendrix died accidentally in London from barbiturate-related asphyxia in September 1970. He was one of the early members of the 27 Club, an informal group of high risk lifestyle musicians who died at 27 years old. Others include Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Curt Colbain, and Amy Winehouse.
The doll comes wearing a simplified version outfit of what Hendrix wore at the Miami Pop Festival on May 18th, 1968.
It has a black felt floppy hat with a plastic purple band. The top is a white frilly shirt open at the front with Velcro and the bottom a pair of maroon velvet pants with an opening in the back. Around the waist is a removable cotton laced belt. Simple black plastic loafer slip on shoes for the feet.
The accessory is a plastic tan replica 1967 Fender Stratocaster Jimi Hendrix.
The doll is articulated at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrist, waist, hips, knees, and ankles.
