Claudia Schiffer
The Claudia Schiffer celebrity doll depicts her as herself at 24 years old modeling a Donatella Versace designed dress she wore at a 1994 Versace show. The Platinum Label Claudia Schiffer Barbie doll was released by Mattel on November 29, 2023 at a retail price of $85 as a member only Barbie Signature sale. The doll was designed by Carlyle Nuera.
Schiffer is a German supermodel who rose to fame in the 1990s and holds the world record for the most magazine covers. On October 20, 2020 Mattel released two OOAK (One of A Kind) Claudia Schiffer Barbies to celebrate her 50th birthday. One was dressed in a 2016 black gown designed by Olivier Rousteing of Balmain and the second in a more upscale version of the blue 1994 Versace gown worn by the 2023 doll. Three years later Mattel produces one for collectors.

The Platinum Barbie comes in a slightly oversized box decorated to match the dress. A corrugated printed background design echos the pleats in the gown. The back of the box features the doll designer’s drawing and a photograph of Claudia Schiffer wearing the real Versace dress. Box has three see-through sides but the front unfortunately is not translucent enough to see the beautiful flowing hem of this gown.
There are many rewards for removing this doll from the box if you should feel so inclined.
First off it is a struggle to wrestle her free. It has the usual signature collectors connections and tiny t-attachments to tie the dress to the box. Don’t pull and ruin the skirt.
The waist holder requires the dress to be completely open to remove. The back of the dress has a two square black plastic snap closure but it comes shipped with additional blue tacking stitches holding it closed at the top and bottom. The dress shoulder straps and bodice over the breasts are double-stick taped down. The curl on her right is poly-banded to the right shoulder. Hair easily sticks to tape as you remove it.
The hair is curled in the front and the back but is sewn down in the back and banded to shoulder. The curls have lots of product and the back has box flattening. Once combed out it falls into shape and looks as it should. A wash would soften the curls and creases even more.
The dress is a bright azure, flowing, high-wasted gown. The fitted sleeveless bodice is a textured satin with a low neckline and thin shoulder straps. The translucent effervescent blue chiffon pleated skirt flows beyond the floor and underneath is a sewn in knee length fitted skirt that matches the bodice.
The face is painted with blue eyes with black eyeliner, thick lashes, and brown/gold glitter eye shadow (It was reported not all dolls came with the glitter eye shadow). The lips are bright light pink with a toothy open mouth and slight pink blushed cheeks. The doll sculpt was shaped to Schiffer’s likeness. The fingernails and toenails are painted with natural peach paint.
The open-toed, high-heeled, ankle grabbing sandals are much more heavy duty than the regular collector fair. The translucent blue plastic is stronger and the heels are sturdy.
The rooted, light blonde hair is waist length. The scalp in the back of the head is painted a purplish black. It appears to give a bleached blood roots showing look.
The doll has a pivotal body with articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, chest, hips, and knees. The waist and ankles are fixed.
A matching blue based waist-grabbing plastic stand is included along with a numbered Platinum label Certificate of Authenticity.
The Claudia Schiffer Barbie was only available at Mattel Creations at retail in the US and quickly sold out. Resellers or overseas are the only options for purchase.
